Okay, so I'm figuring there are lots of Reaper users who are in a similar situation that I'm in - namely they have some older MIDI gear that they still like, but they're having to use a USB adapter to get their hardware into the mix. Its audio output is still great, but I'm not able to get to first base anymore with its MIDI output. Right now, I'm a little more than suspicious that something's gone wrong with my GR-33. But if I can't get the GR-33 to work right in Reaper, then I'm gonna have to think things over. And if I can, I'll be willing to go through the many tutorials you have put together about this DAW. So anyway, I'm here mostly to see if I can get my GR-33 to work properly in Reaper. But it's an exercise in frustration when it doesn't. It works great when my GR-33 is communicating with Sonar properly. So I can select a USB Channel, which becomes a GR-33 channel, then I can select a GR-33 bank and patch.
ROLAND GR 33 PATCH EDITOR PLUS
In Sonar, I can assign each of the adapter's 16 channels to correspond to a Roland GR-33 channel, plus Sonar uses instrument definition files which give a listing of the patches aboard the GR-33. All Reaper appears to be seeing at this point is just the USB adapter. One problem with this arrangement that I don't see a solution for yet is that I'm not able to assign GR-33 specific sounds anywhere. This turns the green trace to red in the track console view, and the red trace is jumping in time with the music. That little box above a channel that says "Routing" - I clicked on it then assigned the Midisport USB to one of the MIDI Hardware Outputs. I found what I think was the way to connect up the Midiman USB to Reaper. I'm brand new to Reaper, but I have managed to assemble a MIDI tune and I'm getting it to play back using Cakewalk's TTS-1 soft synth for all voices except the melody voice. But I do have a couple of Midiman Midisport 2x2 MIDI to USB converters, and I've been using one of these to get my GR-33's signal into the mix with Sonar.īut I've been having a lot of problems with the GR-33 and Sonar communicating properly lately, so what I'd like to see if I can do is to get Reaper to act as a controller for the GR-33, and see if I can get it to make some noise. Problem right now is that the GR-33 uses the old round MIDI connectors and my current DAW no longer has any ports that accept the old style MIDI hookups. I have a Roland GR-33 guitar synth that I've previously been using in Sonar, and I would like to see if I can get Reaper to run it.
